The Career of Helane Morrison

Helane Morrison spent a number of years with the Securities and Exchange Commission. While with this organization, she headed the San Francisco office and held position ssuch as Regional Director and as the District Administrator. During her time with the SEC, Helane was responsible for the enforcement of securities laws, overseeing litigation and also overseeing regulatory matters in the industry for Northern California and the five Northwest states. In the late 1990’s, Morrison was in charge of enforcement for the San Francisco SEC office where she would represent the organization in legal, business and financial affairs. This experience allowed Morrison to establish herself as one of the most valuable members of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Under her leadership, the SEC was able to maintain its ability to promote fair and ethical conduct in the financial securities industry.


Before joining the Securities and Exchange Commission, Helane Morrison was a lawyer for the law firm Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Candy, Falk & Rabkin from 1986-1996. During her stint at this law firm, she would become a partner in the year 1991. When Helane was practicing at this firm, she participated in business litigation and also providing defense for securities actions. As well as participating in these activities, Morrison would also focus on SEC matters as well along with internal corporate investigations. Before Helane began working in private practice, she served as a law clerk for the Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun from 1985-1986 and Richard Posner of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Court from 1984-1985. Helane Morrison is currently the Managing Director, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Hall Partners LLC. She is also part of the firm’s Executive Committee where she has provided steady leadership for the firm.


As well as having a long and successful career in law, Helane Morrison is a member of the Board of Regional Parks Foundation. Morrison is a member of the Hedge Fund Subcommittee of the American Bar Association. Along with being a member of organizations, Morrison also participates as a speaker on topics such as compliance and legal issues of investment advising and the management of private funds. Prior to starting her career, Ms. Morrison completed a degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. She would go on to law school by attending the University of California Berkeley. When attending this law school, she served as the Editor in Chief of the California Law Review.

  • I think that when she will look back at what she has achieved in life she will be very proud of herself and I know that she is an inspiration to many out there. The thing is essay pro that she has proving hr critics wrong and for her to be doing so well in an industry that is so dominated by men goes to show that gender doesn’t really matter at all.
